The Friday of our trip we did an all-day tour (6am - 9 or 10 pm) to see Agua Azul, Misol Ha and Palenque

Our first stop was Agua Azul (blue water), named quite literally for its color.

interesting tree with both green and pink leaves

Next, we went to Misol-Ha.

Our final stop of the day was Palenque, Mayan ruins that date back to 100 BC to its fall around 800 AD.

look closely and you can see Mayan writings

The trip was broken up by stops on the way up, but was a 5-6 hour drive on the way back. It was pretty scenery through the mountains -- though very curvy roads with a ton of speed bumps. We drove through various Zapatista communities, marked with a red star. We enjoyed a pretty sunset during the drive back to San Cristobal.
