Our first full day in Chiapas (Thurs) we went to see the Cañón del Sumidero. We took a public bus over to Chiapa de Corzo, a small town outside of Tuxtla.

Then we took a boat ride through the Cañón del Sumidero, with cliffs as high as 1,000 meters above the Grijalva River. We were told that when the Spanish invaded, many of the Chiapa indians threw themselves over the cliffs to avoid being captured.
